The Sensex ended down 157 points at 28,052 and the Nifty slipped 28 points to settle at 8,639. Gujarat Alkalies & Chemicals Ltd jumped 13% to Rs.273. The company said its net profit for the June quarter rose 95.1% to Rs.86.26 crore as compared to Rs.44.21 crore a year ago. Thirumalai Chemicals Ltd dropped 8% to Rs.333. The company said its net profit stood at Rs.20.24 crore in June quarter, up 6.08% from Rs.19.08 crore a year ago. Net sales fell 17.7% to Rs.217.77 crore. Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd fell 5% to Rs.70 after the company said its net profit fell 54% in June quarter to Rs.46.30 crore as compared to Rs.100.94 crore a year ago.

Amtek Auto surged 7.5% to Rs.51.60 on BSE. The company expanded its planned asset sale to include additional overseas businesses as it looks to reduce leverage, as per media reports. Maruti Suzuki ended around 2% lower after reporting a 23% jump in its net profit for the quarter ended June 30, 2016. The net profit at Rs 1,486 crore was also the result of other factors like favourable Rupee-Yen rate and higher non-operating income.

The Sensex dipped 90 points to end at 27,747, after hitting an intra-day high of 28,014. The Nifty slipped 33 points to close the session at 8,509 after hitting an intra-day high of 8,587. The Sensex gained 7 points to end at 28,815 and Nifty dipped 2 points to close at 8,520.The Indian equity market ended on a flat note on Wednesday amid lackluster day of trades. Profit booking, coupled with disappointing macro-economic inflation data and lower crude oil prices saw the indices close with negligible losses. Infosys and TCS gained around 1% ahead of cautious ahead of their June quarter earnings which will come out on July 14 and July 15. NBCC cracked 10.7% to Rs.229.80 on BSE. The Centre cleared a proposal to sell its stake in NBCC India with an aim to meet the Rs.56,500 crore PSU disinvestment target in 2016-17. RPP Infra Projects soared 4.3% after the company announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, situated in Sri Lanka, bagged order work of High Commission of India Colombo worth of US $10.36mn.
