Sensex ended the session down by 249 points or 0.69 per cent at 36,033 and the Nifty closed lower by 80 points or 0.73 per cent at 11,049.Sensex ended the session down by nearly 250 points due to profit-booking in recent outperformers such as HDFC Bank Ltd, while caution prevailed ahead of the federal budget, due on Thursday. GLOBAL MARKET:
Asian stocks edged up to record highs on Friday, although losses on Wall Street slowed the advance, while worries over a possible US government shutdown weighed on the dollar. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan added 0.3 per cent to a record top. The index had climbed 1.2 per cent on the week, during which it rode a surge in global equities. Wall Street fell on Thursday as losses in industrials and interest-rate sensitive sectors offset marginal gains in tech stocks. Utilities and real estate dipped 0.6 per cent and 1.0 per cent, respectively. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 97.84 points, or 0.37 per cent, to 26,017.81, the S&P 500 lost 4.53 points, or 0.16 per cent, to 2,798.03 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.23 points, or 0.03 per cent, to 7,296.05.

Sensex ended 178 points higher at a new closing peak of 35,260. on Thursday. Intra-day, the sensex touched a high of 35,507, bettering its previous intra-day high of 35,118 reached yesterday. Banking stocks led by HDFC Bank led the rally on sustained foreign fund flows. However, heavy selling in Reliance, Tata Steel, Adani Ports and SBI in the afternoon session checked the rally. The Nifty too ended at a new closing high of 10,817, gaining 28 points or 0.26 per cent. The nifty zoomed to a new high of 10,887 in intra-day trade. On Wednesday, the nifty had touched an intra-day high of 10,803. Adani Enterprises Ltd 6.87% to Rs190.35.

Asian stocks stepped back from a record high on Wednesday as the region's resource shares were dented by falling oil and commodity prices while digital currencies tumbled on worries about tighter regulations. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dropped 0.1 per cent from its record high as resource shares declined after oil and other commodities succumbed to profit-taking after recent gains. Japan's Nikkei fell 0.7 per cent from its 26-year peak hit the previous day.
